Courier Companies Beggining
It all started with the pigeons who used to deliver messages from one place to the other and then there were times in the distant history, not that long ago ironically when you had to wait for someone to travel to a destination so that you could send a parcel or a letter for your dear ones, then came postal services which eased out the communication and delivery process. With the passage of time came a phenomenal service which overcame almost all drawbacks and proved to be a remarkable success, which is the courier service.
Broadly speaking, courier is a kind of a service by which an individual or a company is hired to carry out the job of delivering a particular message or a kind of parcel to a specific location. The major difference between the ordinary mail services and the couriers is that the latter are very much time saving and are much safer, as they provide a complete follow up of the item to be sent. As can be determined that sending via courier proves to be more expensive than the mail services and hence people prefer to send only parcels via courier which cannot be mailed or there is an emergency, so that the sent item importance would justify the expense. These services have facilitated business communication, personal and non personal communication in a tremendous way.
The courier services do not necessarily mean national or international level packages. The courier services can be of various types as follows:
1.Local/Domestic: These operate within the vicinity of a city or a town and have limited resources and access. These are generally carried out by cycles, motorcycles, vans etc.
2.Regional: They operate in a specified geographic region and have a wider reach than the local couriers. For such types bikes, vans or at times the railways are used.
3.National: These cover an entire country. They are a larger organisation and sometimes consist of small regional courier services combined together. The mode of transport is majorly railways and airways.
4.International: These operate across the world and have a well spread diversified network. They only operate through air cargo but there are very small number of cases where the railways are used.
The courier services also have a time specific service which is available.
It implies that if there is some parcel to be sent on high priority and highly urgent basis a little increment in the cost you bear does the trick, so in a way the service is quite flexible as well.
Today there are many international companies with huge turnovers into this business, names like UPS, FedEx etc are known worldwide for their services. These are not only the big names but have also hugely contributed to making the world a very small place and every corner of the world accessible. There is a lot of competition from postal and telecom services but courier holds a strong place in the communication industry.
